Neighborhood Profile: Rockefeller Center

rockefeller center

Situated in the heart of Midtown Manhattan, Rockefeller Center is one of New York City’s most storied landmarks. Home to commercial offices, entertainment venues, shops, restaurants, artwork, gardens and the famed Top of the Rock observation deck, Rockefeller Center is a veritable city-within-a-city! But is it the right place for your company to do business?

Overview

Rockefeller Center is located in Midtown Manhattan, sandwiched between Fifth and Sixth Avenues and 48th to 51st Streets. Built during the depth of the Great Depression, the complex consists of 19 Art Deco and Modern commercial buildings as well as venues such as Radio City Music Hall and a number of retail establishments. A major cultural hub, it’s known as the location for the famed Christmas tree lighting every year, ringing in the holiday season.

Advantages

The complex offers a number of advantages for companies, organizations and institutions looking to do business there. Centrally located in the heart of Midtown Manhattan, the complex is easy to reach from Grand Central Terminal, Penn Station and the Port Authority Bus Terminal, making it ideal for companies with large number of suburban commuters. In addition to this, the complex also sits directly above the 47th – 50th Streets – Rockefeller Center subway station, providing access to the B, D, F and M subway trains as well as numerous bus routes nearby.

The complex also holds a vast array of shopping, dining and entertainment options directly within its borders as well, offering much for tenants to enjoy without ever even leaving it! Nearby throughout Midtown Manhattan, tenants will also find everything from upscale shopping on Fifth Avenue to top-rated restaurants, offering the best of New York City at their fingertips. Finally, it’s worth noting that the location offers a marquee global prestige that only a few other locales in the city can match, making it ideal for companies looking to boost their national and international image.

Disadvantages

Despite all its advantages, the location probably isn’t for every tenant. Those seeking modern, cutting-edge office space will likely need to look to Hudson Yards, the World Trade Center and elsewhere in the city, as the 1930s Art Deco commercial buildings of the complex can only go so far. Companies in sectors such as fashion, technology and digital marketing will probably not find the complex to be a great fit either and would be better off in more hip neighborhoods like SoHo or even the Financial District. The complex’s immense crowds, especially around the holidays, may give some prospective tenants pause as well.

Verdict

With its convenient location in the center of Midtown Manhattan, wide array of amenities and global prestige, Rockefeller Center is a great place to do business in New York City. Although trendier tenants like fashion and creative services companies may feel out of place here, the complex’s superb location and prestige factor are hard to beat!
