Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
As the city digs out from the snow storm earlier this week, the luck of the Irish is smiling upon the Big Apple with much to see and do. From the iconic St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Friday to historical exhibits to artwork exhibits and much more, there’s a little bit of something for everyone this weekend! Here’s a brief look at just some of the top activities and events in NYC for the weekend of March 18 – 19.
St. Patrick’s Day Parade
Start the weekend at the famed St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Manhattan. Dating all the way back to 1762, it’s the oldest St. Patrick’s Day Parade in the United States and is renowned throughout the world. Saving Washington
This fascinating exhibit at the New-York Historical Society on Central Park West offers an interesting look into the life of First Lady Dolley Madison. Guests can see artifacts, artwork and historical documents relating to Madison and other First Ladies – a must for history buffs and those interested in Presidential history!
The Brooklyn Meatball Takedown
This fun and tasty event features a contest of amateur cooks in who can create the tastiest meatballs in NYC! Sample meatballs from 30 teams and choose your favorite! Takes place at the Brooklyn Bazaar at 150 Greenpoint Avenue in Brooklyn. More info can be found over at www.thetakedowns.com.
Dunsmore: Illustrating the American Revolutionary War
Artist John Ward Dunsmore was known for his realistic paintings of Colonial and Early America. Discover more than 40 of his paintings at the Fraunces Tavern Museum at 54 Pearl Street in Manhattan.
Mastering the Metropolis: New York and Zoning, 1916 – 2016
This interesting exhibits at the Museum of the City of New York explores the impact of the Zoning Resolution of 1916, the first zoning laws in the United States. A must for those interested in urban planning, design and architecture, this exhibit is not to be missed!
